The 34th Tarlac Council Jamborette: “
By Joremah M. Jimenez
Last December 8-12, 2010, the High School Department of ICF, Inc. participated at the 34th Tarlac Council Jamborette held in Camp Aping Yap, Victoria, Tarlac. Thirty eight participants comprising of 15 boys, 28 girls, and 5 teachers that include Mr. Peter Beltran, the outfit adviser, Mr. Antoni George Garcia, the unit scribe, Mr. Ronaldo Facun, Ms. Melody Ulac and Ms. Julie Ann Flores as unit grub masters joined the said activity.
Ahead by one day the ICF delegates arrived in Sub-Camp Susan, Barangay San Gavino , Victoria, Tarlac on December 7, 2010 to set the camp. Cleaning the campsite was the first task given to them. During their first night, however, the campers experienced a heavy rain fall and they even had no light. But this did not dampen their spirit, the campers still welcomed the following day with great optimism and energy through its lineup of activities.
After the official opening, the many activities prepared by the council supported by Gov. Victor Yap, Congresswoman Susan Yap-Sulit and Mayor Jeni Guiam were joined by the different participating schools and their delegates. The lineup of activities include the exhausting but exciting physical activities like rappelling, slide for life, and the “Jeni” Challenge or the obstacle course and the “Go Green and Learn-A-Trade” which promoted environmental awareness among campers . There are also some singing of Christmas Carols and Dance Contests that showcased the talents of the delegates.
On the last night, the Grand Campfire was filled with different performances coming from the different participating schools. Every area from clusters 1-5 has their representatives where they show their songs, yells and skits based from this year’s theme “Scouts Building Tomorrow Today”. In the end, our very own ICF delegates won the “Cleanest Camp” among all the private schools in the province.
This year’s Council Jamborette was definitely a success. As depicted through its theme, the youths of this generation should start building the future, not next week, next month, or the following year… It should be TODAY… It should be NOW.
